Fendi

Overview

In 2015 Fendi took inspiration from a series of animal illustrations in my 20 Ways to Draw A Cat book. They reached out directly, requesting permission to use and incorporate decorative patterns inspired from that book into a coming Men's Ready to Wear collection.

The Fendi Frog

I was curious to see what collaborating with such a well-known luxury fashion house would look like. I had designed new textile patterns for surface design before but I had never had existing illustrations reworked into a new design, so this was a new experience for me. The ensuing “Fendi frog” pattern was developed internally by their style department, and my primary responsibility was to approve the proposed pattern and usage. The Fendi team was a pleasure to work with throughout the whole process.

Products

The result was a design that was incorporated into one of their 2017 ready-to-wear collections for men. This pattern was primarily used on accessories (scarves, winter hats, ties) for one collection, or approximately 4 months on the market - just long enough for me to spot it in stores and every now and then, worn by passers-by!
