Public Art

I lived in Cleveland for a total of 8 years between 2007-2021. Having grown up in the urban sprawl of LA, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a small, tight knit community in Cleveland. I was even more surprised to find intimacy in the act of creating public art. I don't often see my final illustration work in the act of being consumed, whether it's being read as a physical book or as an online news article. In contrast, creating public art in my own city meant that I was part of the audience for whom I was creating. I regularly drove by my blade signs on the way to the Asian grocery store, chatted with friends at Mason's Creamery while getting ice cream or ramen, and walked past Bowser Alley on the way to the climbing gym.

It's humbling knowing that others will have to live with my art long after I've moved away. I hope to live up to each wall, each community and neighborhood.
